Solo Position.png

Your engineer will find the best position for your charger based on your power supply and where you park.

The charger is fixed to the wall, a cable is run from the unit to the mains power supply, and it will be activated for use. Your engineer will then connect the charger to the Wi-Fi and set up the Pod Point app.

How long will it take?

Every install is unique, but the standard install usually takes around 2 hours to complete. If the install cannot be completed on the day due to any unexpected extra work then the install will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time.

Unexpected extra work quotation process:

If the installations doesn’t meet the criteria for a standard installation we can normally still carry out the installation but an additional cost may occur.

If this is the case, we will carry out a free site survey and produce a no-oblingation quote for any additional works. If the additional work is minor and fits into your engineers schedule for the day, we may be able to take payment and have the job completed for you then and there.

If there are significant additional works, we will come back to you with a quote and then the installation can be re-arranged.

If you decide not to proceed you will be issued a full refund for any payment that’s already been made.

What to prepare for your install:

Make sure the area surrounding your distribution board/electricity supply meter is clear including the cable run route – specifically in small spaces, such as under the stairs and in and around the garages.

Have the WI-FI password ready for your engineer, so they are able to connect your Charge point to the internet.

Need to change your arranged time?

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can pop up, but not to worry, if you need to reschedule you can easily cancel your appointment using the cancellation button from your confirmation email and we can rearrange to a time that suits you better.

What is the installation process on the day?

Your engineer will confirm their arrival time with you in advance of their installation.

Your engineer will choose the best position for your Charge point to be installed based on your power supply and where you park your car.

Your engineer will start by positioning and fixing the Charger to the wall by drilling and clipping the cable to the wall, then briefly turning off the power supply while installing the RCBO and connecting it to the main supply. They will then do their final safety checks and make sure your home charger is ready for use.

Your engineer will then provide a full demonstration of your Charger, what the different lights mean and how you should get in touch may you have any questions.

Lastly they will need your WI-FI password to completed the setup of your home charger.

Why connect to WI-FI?

Your home charger can offer so much more when its connected to the WI-FI, such as:

  • Remote diagnostics, remote support issue resolution.

  • “Over the Air” software updates.

  • Energy usage reporting and associated features.

  • Access to new smart features as they become available in the Pod Point App.

Is it secure?

PodPoint comply with data security, regulations, and protocols:

  • Registered under Data Protection Register (ICO reg number Z2282125).

  • Regularly audited by CREST approved external agencies.

  • Databases are encrypted and ISO27001 compliant.

Payment systems are PCI DSS compliant.

What comes as standard with your install?

Standard installation packages include the following:

  • Fitting of the Charge point on a brick or plaster wall, or to another suitable permanent structure.

  • Up to 15 metres of black cable, run and clipped neatly to the wall between the distribution board/electricity supply meter and the Charge point.

  • Routing of the cable trough a hole drilled in the wall up to 500m (20 inches) thick, where needed.

  • Fitting and testing of electrical connections and protections required for the Charge point.

  • Additional three-way consumer unit, if required.

  • Installation of the circuit protection in keeping with BS7671 regulations.

  • Up to 3 metres (10 feet) of plastic conduit to conceal interior wiring.

  • NB: because of the unique way Pod Point chargers are engineered they do not require an earth rod.

Some conditions and limitations you need to know about:

  • The Charge point has to be located in your designated off-street parking area and be fixed at a height where it cannot be hit by a vehicle.

  • If fixing the cable above 1.8 metres (6 feet) is unavailable then the installation may need to be paused – and a charge may be incurred for any extra work that may be needed. For your engineers safety we instruct a thorough risk assessment when working at heights.

  • We can’t, as part of our standard package, trench the cable underground or suspend it above the ground – if something like this will be required then please contact us so that we can give you a quote in advance.

  • We can’t run cable under floorboards or through ducting/ceiling voids/wall voids without a draw cord (to pull the cable through), or if the floorboards have not been lifted. We cannot take responsibility for reinstating flooring or other building materials after the cable has been laid.

Also to note:

  • Engineers are not able to work in crawl spaces, on roofs or in lofts if it is deemed unsafe by them.

  • Engineers are not able to work in extreme weather (i.e. flooding or intense rain). If its deemed unsafe to continue your Engineer will complete as much as they can and we will return at a later date that suits.

  • Remember that when you are using your charger the EV charging lead must remain on your property and must not create a trip hazard for a member of the public.
